CEREOLOGY

cereology: the study of crop circles

As "word pictures" go... I really love this one.

You know, I've done quite a few "-phobia"s (fear of). I've done some "-phile"s (lover of) and one "-philia" (love of). A couple of "-form"s (shape of).

But somehow, this is only my second "-ology" (study of). I think maybe it just took me a while to figure out how to represent them visually.

When I came across cereology, the image you see above popped into my head and I knew I had to do it. I also really wanted to draw it because it sounds like one thing but it's something completely different.

It's such a bizarre word for the thing it represents. The fear of crop circles is trypophobia. There doesn't appear to be a word for love of crop circles or the shape of crop circles. (I suggest they be called cerephilia and cereform.)

But where does that strange prefix come from, anyway? It's not as esoteric as you might think.

It's named for Ceres, the Roman god of agriculture.
